Whether it’s for the better or worse, exercise is integral to your weight loss regime. You could search high and low for that secret technique which will help you lose weight magically but I doubt if you’ll ever come across one. So, the best thing to do is focus instead on a reasonable solution to losing weight.

Weight loss cannot be achieved by focusing on one thing alone. It is a combination of different factors, ranging from exercise to diet modification to snacking healthy to choosing what you drink with caution to excluding fattening foods from your diet. Unless you are ready to makes some lifestyle changes there will very little hope for your weight loss efforts.

In a manner of speaking, those who worry about how to lose weight without exercise are probably referring to the non-exercise part of losing weight. Let me explain. Some people have a fairly healthy fitness routine. They go for regular walks or runs that are geared towards burning loads of calories throughout the day. And, yet they are unable to lose weight. In some startling cases, they actually end up putting on more weight in spite of their workout routine. How is that possible?

Actually, it is. When you start exercising, the demands of the body go up and since it is burning calories so rapidly, you end up with a bigger appetite. Now, while nobody likes to go hungry, people trying to lose weight usually indulge these food cravings by eating the wrong kind of foods! The key to feeling satiated doesn’t lie in stuffing just about anything into your mouth. You have to learn to choose healthier snacks – foods that are low on calories and yet keep you feeling full throughout the day.

For instance, proteins usually make for a good snack. Low fat yogurt, skim milk, homemade smoothies are great options for those between-the-meals hunger pangs. It takes the body some time to break down and synthesize proteins and that keeps you full for a relatively longer period of time.

You should also have foods that are made of complex carbohydrates. These would include whole grains like wheat germ, oats, millet, wild rice, barley, buckwheat, brown rice, cornmeal, and oat bran; fruits like oranges, grapefruits, apricots, pears, plums, and prunes; vegetables like broccoli, turnip greens, spinach, cauliflower, eggplant, carrots, yams, corn, potatoes, onions, celery, cabbage, cucumbers, lettuce, asparagus, and artichokes; and legumes like kidney beans, lentils, peas, black beans, soy beans, garbanzo beans, and pinto beans.

In the end, there are times when you are likely to succumb to your food cravings. When that happens, don’t be too harsh on yourself. Self loathing is not going to get you anywhere. Allowing yourself one indulgence doesn’t mean you’ve failed completely. Tomorrow will be a new day and you can continue with your weight loss efforts, if you put your mind to it. All the best!
